Fun Stuff

I have always been fascinated with desks. I love photos of them, shopping for them, playing with them and filling them up. I also love to see other people's desks and photos of where they work. And so, I thought I would show you mine - both of them!

office1

This is my desk at home. We live in a big old farmhouse and I'm lucky enough to have a room pretty much all to myself for working. (I have to make some allowances for traffic to move through the room, or we couldn't go upstairs anymore). This wonderful desk belonged to my grandfather and I'm thrilled to have it now. That's his portrait you see hanging on the wall, in fact. This desk is huge and solid and beautiful - and with the evolution of the laptop computer, I now get to enjoy all that space.

office2

This is my favorite spot in the whole house. Surrounded by books, a lovely view out the window and my desk in front of me ready for me to get to work. On the bookshelf in the corner, you can see the cool old telephone my husband dug up for me. We can't seem to wire it properly to call out on, but you can take phone calls on it - I call it my Nero Wolfe phone..

office3

This is the corner opposite the desk, and I thought I'd include it because several of my writerly heroes are showcased here. Although, Janet Evanovich is on the wall behind the desk.

cabin

This is the desk my father built in the loft of our cabin. It's just a varnished board hinged to the wall, and hanging from a couple of chains, but it's one of my absolute favorite places to work. I have to kind of crawl into place in that chair, because the ceiling is not high enough for me to stand up straight. Once I'm there, though, I'm comfy as can be. I've done some of my best writing here, and I'm always anxious to get back.
